Description

What is chopped PBO fiber?

PBO (Zylon), the Chinese name is polyparaphenylenebenzoxazole, please refer to the following molecular structure diagram.

PBO is a unique conjugated rigid rod-shaped molecule in structure. The molecular structure is highly symmetrical, which gives PBO fiber excellent mechanical and thermal properties. The tensile strength reaches 5.8GPa, the thermal decomposition temperature is 650°C, and the limiting oxygen index is greater than 68%. Due to its unique molecular structure and special manufacturing process, PBO fiber has the characteristics of ultra-high strength, ultra-high modulus, high temperature resistance and high thermal environment stability. It has excellent overall performance and is known as the 21st century super fiber. The application field of Chopped PBO fiber is mainly in the civil field, such as: rubber reinforcement, tunnel and bridge concrete reinforcement. SH-PBO chopped is divided into SHCG-PBO-HS (high strength type) according to different production processes and product uses. Three types of fibers: SHCG-PBO-HS (high strength), SHCG-PBO-HM (high modulus) and SHCG-PBO-NR (heat-resistant type).

The following is the parameter list of these three types of chopped PBO .

Property of chopped PBO fiber

  • Excellent strength & modulus
  • Good flame resistance
  • Excellent thermal stability
  • Excellent creep resistance
  • Good chemical resistance

Disadvantages of chopped  PBO  fiber

• Very poor UV resistance
• Poor compressive strength
• Strength loss in exposure to strong acids
Excellent heat resistance and flame retardancy. Ordinary fibers will decompose in high temperature environments, while PBO fibers can resist decomposition even in extremely high temperature environments (650°C). PBO fiber maintains high durability at 500°C. The durability, heat resistance and elastic modulus of PBO fiber are quite strong, which is the highest among organic fiber products on the market.

What are the applications of chopped PBO fiber ?

  1. PBO chopped application fields are mainly in the civil field, such as: rubber reinforcement.
  2. Concrete reinforcement for tunnels and bridges.
  3. PBO veil.
  4. Pulp, friction material, engineering plastic reinforced fiber
